Job Description
Power Industry Support, LLC is actively recruiting an Environmental, Healt & Safety Specialist for the Stockton Biomass Power Plant located in Stockton, CA. The facility is a 45 NMW stoker fired biomass power plant.
We are looking for an experienced EH&S candidate with a solid background in and exposure to environmental and safety regulatory requirements. Contact Larry O’Neal at loneal@powerindustrysupport.com for more information or to submit your resume.
Salary Range: $108K – $120K. A $5,000 signing bonus is being offered to the successful candidate.

Job Summary
This position will support the implementation and oversight of environmental, safety and health programs and policies at both the Stockton facility and the Woodland facility. The expectation being work would be divided between both sites based on need and priority. Experience in industrial safety, training, field/site safety auditing, safety/IH project management, and hazard identification and control is required.
Key Accountabilities
- Communicate, administer, and maintain existing safety & industrial hygiene programs, policies, and procedures
- Continuously improve and expand upon existing programs by soliciting feedback from all customers
- Develop and deliver safety and environmental related reports, training, and presentations
- Consult with the corporate EH&S Professionals to ensure consistency with company expectations
- Conduct, monitor and follow up on site safety and environmental assessments
- Work with project site management to ensure compliance with regulations and consistency with company expectations
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve industry specific safety and environmental programs
- Provide leadership and direction in proactive safety related activities
- Perform all other related duties as assigned
Minimum Education & Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety or related field (Industrial Safety, Construction Safety, Industrial Hygiene, etc.)
- At least five years of practical experience in the field of safety for heavy industrial or power plant operations (schoolwork, internships, and co-ops are not to be included in the experience calculation)
Other Qualifications
Preferred:
- CSP or CIH certification
- Master’s degree
Other Requirements:
- Organizational skills with the ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks
- Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Working proficiency of Microsoft Office products. Expert knowledge of occupational safety and industrial hygiene regulations
- Extensive knowledge of electrical regulations and standards is preferred
- Experience with safety management systems (OHSAS18001, ANSI Z10) is preferred
- Ability to function within a matrix organization in which functional and business leaders have equal authority within the organization and employees report to both a functional leader and a business leader
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to pass a background check to allow authorized access to restricted information and areas as required by federal and/or state regulations
- Ability to obtain a passport and ability to travel internationally, as necessary
- Ability to develop and maintain productive relationships with both a functional (“solid line”) and business leader (“dotted line”), who collaborate on employee issues and decisions, including performance management, compensation, and development

- Occasionally stand or walk and stoop or kneel. Frequently, the employee is required to sit

- Frequently lift objects of up to 10 pounds in weight. Occasionally the employee will have to lift/move objects of up to 25 pounds in weight
- Vision requirements for this position include close vision, color vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus
Additional physical requirements include: ability to climb ladders up to 20 feet in height; ability to climb stairs up to 5 flights at a time; ability to wear negative-pressure respirators for up to 4 hours a day; ability to perform light work in hot environments (100 degrees F) for up to 1 hours/day; ability to wear protective equipment (including, but not limited to hearing protection, hard hat, safety boots, safety glasses or goggles, flame-resistant coveralls, gloves) for up to 10 hours/day; ability to work in a noisy environment (with hearing protection); ability to walk/stand (with occasional breaks) for up to 7 hours/day; ability to work at heights (protected by guardrails and/or personal fall arrest equipment); ability to work in an environment with exposures to magnetic and/or electrical fields, wood dust, coal dust, coke oven emissions, organic vapors, and/or metal fumes (all within OSHA limits).
While performing the duties of this job, the employee works both in a business office setting and at a project site. In the course of working at the project site, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions, including cold/hot, wet and/or humid conditions, and may work near moving mechanical parts and/or machinery. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibration (see physical requirements above). The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate in the office but may become loud at the project site.
